EXCERT ABOUT STC OBA OF GNY
The S Thomas' College OBA of Greater New York (STCOBAGNY) was formed
in Jan 2008. The OBA was formed with the objective of giving
assistance to college, students and bringing the local old Thomians
together. The current president is Mr. Ivan Sriwardene. The group
has approximately 40 members, 10 of whom are in the "working"
committee. As the kick off 'event' we had the first Thomian Dinner
Dance on the East Coast of USA in October 2008. Two live bands
performed in which we had approximately 300 guests who attended and
danced the night away to the sounds of Chandimal and the 2nd
connection with Dalrene Suby and Oasis (local NY band). One of the
first projects the group undertook to support from the proceeds of
the dinner dance was to provide the TASU with some much needed
equipment for the water polo and swimming teams to the tune of
approx usd 3000. We are currently working with the college office to
select another project that we can support. We hope to have our
flagship event - the Thomian East Coast Dinner Dance on a bi annual
basis to be able to collect funds to support our Alma Mater in what
ever projects the committee and the college decides as appropriate.
